The Q Power team has landed a job at the Gold Coast Airport!
As the international airport primes for future growth – predicting passenger numbers to soar over the next twenty years – construction to expand its existing terminal will soon be underway.
The expansion marks the next phase of the $370 million airport redevelopment project, ‘Project LIFT’, and will make room for more retail space, a new departure lounge, aerobridges and more.
So, what part does the Q Power team play in Project LIFT?
Our team will help to ensure that construction can carry out safely and securely, while allowing the airport to continue seeing passengers to and from the Gold Coast.
Safely managing construction traffic
We were engaged by the team at Superior Fences and Gates for our expertise in gate automation.
Working with the North Brisbane company, and under principal contractor Lendlease, we will manage the installation of two separate, four-way ‘gate lock’ automation systems that can manage construction traffic within the airport.
The gate lock systems will allow construction traffic to safely pass over two airside tug routes without the need for security screening or airside passes, saving heaps of time. They will each consist of automatic sliding and automatic boom gates with shared remote controls.
The systems must satisfy stringent airport security requirements, while also being flexible and reactive to the airport’s daily operations. They must, for example, account for passing airport dollies which often carry insecure loads (because nobody likes getting to their destination days before their bags do).
We’re very excited to take part in the redevelopment of the main gateway to one of Australia’s most popular regions and we’ll be sure to keep you updated on our progress as the project unfolds.
